BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Missouri S&T used nine top-five finishes in the contested events Friday to put itself in second place after day one of the three-day Western Kentucky Invitational.
The Miners got second place showings from Danny Murphy in the 500-yard freestyle in 4:39.31, his best mark of the season in the event and Andrew Schranck in the 200-yard individual medley in 1:54.57.
S&T got a second place finish from both of its relay teams Friday, as its 200-yard freestyle relay team of Sean Deegan, Agi Van Wetering, David Sanchez-Turner and Hamilton Vernon with a time of 1:25.81 and the 400-yard medley relay team of Jeff Enge, Zlatan Hamzic, Schranck and Sanchez-Turner also took second in 3:28.42
Andrew Trowbridge finished third in the 500-yard freestyle in 4:41.69, while S&T got fourth place showings from Enge in the 200-IM in 1:56.64 and Vernon in the 50-yard freestyle in 22.01 seconds.
The Miners got fifth place finishes from Phil Arve in the 500-freestyle in 4:46.78 and Hamzic in the 200-individual medley in 1:58.39.
The meet runs through Sunday.
