• Lady Miner volleyball team to hold "Power of Pink" month in October

  Missouri S&T's volleyball team will be holding a "Power of Pink Month" throughout October to help raise money and awareness for breast cancer research and will have promotions throughout the month for that event.

  The team will wear pink jerseys during each of its four home matches during October, beginning with the Oct. 10 game against Wisconsin-Parkside at the Bullman Multi-Purpose Building. Missouri S&T will also sport the pink uniforms for its home games on Oct. 11 against Lewis, Oct. 14 against Maryville and Oct. 31 against Drury before being auctioned to fans.

  Fans will be able to make bids on the jerseys at a table with bid sheets at each of those games, or by e-mail to head coach Jason Holt (holtjas@mst.edu). The winners will be announced after the Oct. 31 match.

  Bids on the jerseys will begin at $50 and one-half of the proceeds raised will go to the Susan G. Komen "Dig for Cure" program, which over 160 collegiate volleyball programs are taking part in this fall, while the other half will benefit the Lady Miner volleyball program.

  The team will also hold its "Dig for the Cure" match on Oct. 10 -- the night the pink jerseys will be worn for the first time -- where sponsors can also pledge a dollar amount per dig by the Lady Miners or make a flat donation to breast cancer research. Fans are encouraged to wear pink that night in support of the program.

  In addition, fans are asked to collect pink Yoplait yogurt lids and bring them to any home game in October as part of the American Volleyball Coaches Association's Breast Cancer Awareness month. At the end of the month, all of the lids collected at the home matches will be returned to Yoplait, who in turn will donate 10 cents for each lid to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
